What survives
- Chapters in spine order, not filename order
- Heading hierarchy from the chapter markup
- Blockquotes, lists, and inline emphasis
- Internal cross-references kept as anchor links
What does not
- DRM-protected books cannot be opened — this is encryption, not a parsing limitation.
- Cover art and illustrations are not embedded in the output.
- Fixed-layout EPUBs (mostly comics and children's books) carry little structural text.
Questions
Can it convert a DRM-protected book from a store?
No. DRM encrypts the contents, and stripping it is out of scope. Books you export DRM-free convert normally.
Is the whole book one file?
Yes — chapters are joined into a single Markdown document in reading order.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The converter is a WebAssembly build of the anydoc engine that runs inside your browser tab. Your file is read into memory, converted, and discarded when you close the page. Nothing is transmitted, stored, or logged.
